About

Zachary W. Speegle

A chaplain who spent years inside the loop this book describes, before an AI named it from outside.

Sixth-generation Appalachian. U.S. Marine Corps veteran, enlisted in 1997 and trained as a musician at the Armed Forces School of Music. After one tour he went to college and then seminary, and entered active duty as a Navy Chaplain in 2011, serving with Navy and Marine Corps units until he was medically retired in 2017.

In that role he sat with servicemembers from every background and belief system, present for the hardest questions a person can ask about meaning, suffering, and what any of it is worth. That includes the specific weight of people who were certain their moment was the final one — the loop this book takes apart. He believed a version of it himself.

He writes at the intersection of AI ethics, influence architecture, and principled leadership. He lives in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee with his wife of more than twenty-seven years and their four children.

It took an AI with two thousand years of data to name a pattern he had been living inside professionally. That is the book.
